CHAPTER  I
PRELIMINARY

1.1  Background
English is the international language with good command of english, then we will be able to communicate with other nations in the world.in additon, we will be able to add insight and science for the better ment of the nation and our country, because we will be able to read english literature listening to radio broadcasts abroad as well as watching movies english language science thus.So that we need  tenses because tenses is most important as rules in the english if he mastered it well.
1.2  Formulation of the problem :

TENSES

2.1 TENSES
Tenses is a method that we use in english to refer to time – past, present and future many languages use tenses to talk about time. Other language have no tenses but of course they can still talk about time, using different methods. So, we talk about time in english with tenses.

2.3 THE DEFINITION, FORMULA AND EXAMPLE OF TENSES
v  SIMPLE  PRESENT  TENSE
Scan be a habitual action (something done regularly such as brushing your teeth every day) or a general trut.
FORMULA :
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
POSITIVE     :  SUBJECT + VERB I(S/ES) + COMPLEMENT
                           SUBJECT + TO BE (AM,IS ARE)+ COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + DO/DOES + NOT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION   : DO/DOES  + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : DO/DOES + NOT + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT ?

v  PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
      Present continuous tense is used to refer to action or situation that are happening now. It  is also used to refer to action or situation that are temporary but last for long periods of time.


FORMULA :
PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + TO BE (AM, IS, ARE)  + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + TO BE (AM, IS, ARE)  + NOT + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION :  TO BE (AM, IS, ARE) + SUBJECT + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVEQUESTION : TO BE (AM, IS, ARE) + NOT +SUBJECT + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT ?
EXAMPLE :

v  PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
Present Perfect Tense is used to express an activity or situation that has started in the past and has been completed at a given point in time in the past or still continues today.

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + COMPLEMENT
SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + NOT + VERB III + COMPLEMENT

tense  is to express action completed at some point in the past or the action has started in the past and continues today.

v  SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Tense  is to express action completed at some point in the past or the action has started in the past and continues today.

FORMULA :
SIMPLE PAST TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + DID NOT+ VERB I + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : DID + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : DID + NOT + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT ?

v  PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
Tense   is used to express that an action is happening at a particular time in the past.

FORMULA  :
PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + TO BE (WAS/WERE) + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + TOBE (WAS/WERE) + NOT + VERB + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : WAS/WERE + SUBJECT + VERB I + ING  + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : WAS/WERE + NOT+ SUBJECT + VERB I + ING  + COMPLEMENT ?
EXAMPLE :
+) : She was washing the clothes yesterday
-) : She was not washing the clothes yesterday
?) : Was she washing the clothes yesterday ?
-?) : Was not she washing the clothes yesterday ?
v  PAST PERFECT TENSE
Tense  is to declare that an action has been completed at some point in the past before another action occurs.

FORMULA :
PAST PERFECT TENSE
POSTIVE : SUBJECT  + HAD + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT  + HAD + NOT + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION :  HAD +  SUBJECT +VERB III + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : HAD +NOT +  SUBJECT +VERB III + COMPLEMENT ?

EXAMPLE  :
+) :  My uncle had gone to Medan last night
-) : My uncle had not gone to Medan last night
?) : Had my uncle gone to Medan last night ?

v  PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
Tense  is used to express an action (with a certain time duration) has been completed at a specific time point in the past.


FORMULA :
PAST PERFECT CONINUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + HAD + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE :  SUBJECT + HAD + NOT + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION: HAD + SUBJECT+BEEN+VERB  I +ING +COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : HAD + NOT + SUBJECT+BEEN+VERB  I +ING +COMPLEMENT ?
EXAMPLE  :
+) :  I  had been meeting Amir inthe town yesterday
-) : I  had not  been meeting Amir in the town yesterday

v  SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
Tense  is to declare that an action happening in the future, either spontaneously, or planned.

FORMULA :
SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT+WILL/SHALL+VERB I + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + WILL/SHALL + NOT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : WILL/SHALL  + SUBJECT +VERB I +  COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIVE QUESTION : WILL/SHALL  + NOT + SUBJECT +VERB I +  COMPLEMENT ?




EXAMPLE :

v  FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE
tense to express the action that will be going on at a certain time in the future.

FORMULA :
FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHALL/WILL +BE+ VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + SHALL/WILL  + NOT + BE + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHALL/WILL + SUBJECT + BE + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE QUESTION :  SHALL/WILL + NOT + SUBJECT + BE + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT

EXAMPLE :
+) : He will be sleeping at 10 p.m.
-) : He will not be sleeping at 10 p.m
?) : Will he be sleeping at 10 p.m ?

v  FUTURE PERFET TENSE
Tense  is to reveal that an activity will have finished at a point in time in the future.

FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHALL/WILL + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE  : SUBJECT + SHALL/WILL + NOT + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHALL/WILL +SUBJECT +  HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE QUESTION : SHALL/WILL + NOT + SUBJECT + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT

Tense  to express that an action would have been going on for so long at a specific time point in the future.

POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHALL/WILL + HAVE + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT

Tense  to express an action to perform, make  predictions, and make an appointment in the future on the past while.
FORMULA :
PAST FUTURE TENSE
POSITVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD + VERB I + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD +NOT +  VERB I + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD + NOT + SUBJECT + VERB I + COMPLEMENT

v  PAST FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE
Tense  to talk about an action that will be taking place (in the form of a prediction / plan) in the future at the time was past.

PAST FUTURE CONTIUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD+BE+ VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE  : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD + NOT + BE  + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD + SUBJECT + BE + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE QUESTION  :  SHOULD/WOULD + NOT + SUBJECT + BE + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT

EXAMPLE :
+) : She would be working at nine o’clock this morning.
-) : She would not be working at nine o’clock this morning.
?) : Would she be working at nine o’clock this morning ?
-?) : Would not She be working at nine o’clock this morning ?
v  PAST FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
Tense to talk about an action that activity would have been done in the past. This form is also used in conditional sentence type 3 .

PAST  FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD + NOT + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD + SUBJECT + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD + SUBJECT + NOT + HAVE + VERB III + COMPLEMENT

EXAMPLE  :
+) : I thought,  you would have slept by the time I arrived.
-) : I thought,  you would not have slept by the time I arrived
?) : I thought,  would you have slept by the time I arrived ?

v  PAST FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
     Similar to the future perfect continuos tense, but the realization of the action taken can be known now as the action happened in the past.
FORMULA : 
PAST FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
POSITIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD+ HAVE + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT + SHOULD/WOULD+ NOT + HAVE + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT
QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD+ SUBJECT + HAVE + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT ?
NEGATIE QUESTION : SHOULD/WOULD+ NOT  + SUBJECT +HAVE + BEEN + VERB I + ING + COMPLEMENT ?

EXAMPLE :
+) : You would have been eating rice
-) : You would not have been eating rice
?)  : Would you have been eating rice ?
-?) : Would not you have been eating rice ?



CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION
From the description of the material that has been presented so can we conclude Tensis consists bag simple present tense, simple past tense, simple future tense, present perfect tense there prsent continuous tense. Simple present tense is a tense use to express the general fact or in other cases it express. Simple past tense is a tense use to express an actifity or situation Began and ended at a paricular time in the past.  Simple future tense is a tense use to express action in the future. Present perfect tense is a tense use to express the idea that something happened for never happened.

Similary, we can describe the tenses of the subject in this paper, of course there are still many short comings and weakness because the lack the knowledge and the lack of reference that has to do with the tittle of this paper.
